12" (30 cm). Paper mache shoulderhead of plump- faced child, blue glass inset eyes with paperweight-like effect, painted lashes, feathered brows, accented nostrils and eye corners, closed mouth with pale accented lips in downcast pouty expression, blushed cheeks, blonde mohair wig, pink kid gusset-jointed body with plump shaping, original muslin upper arms, composition arms from above the elbows. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: (angel head symbol) Fabrickmarke deponirt (doll, dress, box). Comments: F.M. Schilling, circa 1885,the angel symbol was registered by the Schilling firm in 1883. Value Points: in superbly preserved condition, an important documentary example as well as beautiful, the doll wears original shoes, socks, blue hair ribbons and muslin chemise with stamped Schilling symbol and the word "biscuitfacon" indicating the bisque-like finish of the paper mache; the label is repeated in five languages on the inside box label.
