Description

12" (32 cm). Wax over paper mache head with alternate faces at front and back, one depicting a white-complexioned child with blue glass eyes, closed mouth, single stroke brows, blonde mohair forehead bangs, the other depicting a black child with brown glass inset eyes, closed mouth with full lips, black fleecy mohair bangs, the head enclosed within a paper mache hood covered by a cap, and the heads alternately revealed by manual rotation or pulling torso string, paper mache torso with modeled bodice ruffles, muslin torso, composition lower arms and legs, bare feet, wearing antique dress, original bonnet decoration. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: (illegible Bartenstein mark on torso). Comments: Bartenstein, circa 1890. Value Points: rare multi-face doll in excellent state of preservation.
