Paper mache head with oval facial shape, elongated throat, short black sculpted hair pulled into rolled curls at the back nape and topped with a green Tyrolean style hat decorated with sculpted red band with bow and a sculpted sprig of flowers, painted facial features, blue upper- glancing eyes, upper eyeliner, single stroke brows, accented nostrils, closed mouth with center accent line, blushed cheek circles, old handmade kid stitch-jointed body, black silk dress with lace trim, undergarments, orange woolen leggings, black shoes. Condition: original finish throughout, fine craquelure on face and breastplate, body is ill-proportioned but appears to have long life attachment to the head. Comments: an identically modeled head with the same sculpted hat, but having shorter hair and sideburns as though representing a gentleman is illustrated in the Johann Daniel Kestner catalog of 1850,described as "Tyrolernaschenkopf", i.e. wearing Tyrolean hat. Value Points: very rare early doll, attributed to Kestner, in fine unrestored condition.
