Each is of poured beeswax with slender faces and elongated throats, portraying an adult man and woman, each with blue glass enamel inset eyes, dot lashes, and lightly tinted brows, accented nostrils, closed mouth, the man with a suggestion of moustache, blonde hair separately inserted into scalp, the woman's hair arranged in elegant braided coiffure, brass grommets at sew- holes of shoulderplate, original muslin body, wax limbs. Condition: very good, the woman missing lower left leg. Marks: A. Aldis Toys, Dolls & Games, 11 & 12 Belgrave Manor (stamp on woman's torso). Comments: Frederic Aldis of London specialized in wax dolls, often using heads of Pierotti from 1878-1901. Value Points: wonderful pair of portrait wax dolls with expressive faces, antique costumes, maker's stamp.
