Description
17". Each is all muslin cloth with unique stitch-shaping of face to emulate the comic strip drawing, attached nose, Popeye with painted facial features and sewn-on body costume and painted tattoo, Olive Oyl with black muslin hair having applied bun at back that exactly matches the shape of her nose, oil-painted side-glancing googly eyes, original red cotton dress and sewn-on boots. Drawn by cartoonist Elzie Segar, Popeye was introduced as Segar's Thimble Theatre in 1929 and soon thereafter licensed for doll production by King Features Syndicate. The first Popeye cartoon films were introduced in 1933. Circa 1935.
