22" (56 cm.) All-cloth doll with overall-oil-painted finish, distinctively-shaped round head, slightly-modeled features such as tiny pug-shaped nose, painted shaded-brown hair in bobbed fashion, painted brown eyes with black eyeliner and all-around lashes, tiny brows, outlined tiny closed mouth, uniquely-shaped body whose hinge-swinging legs have joining fabric at the inner thighs to prevent "flopping", mitten-shaped hands. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Nina Bonner Albritton of Clarksville, Tennessee, circa 1915, whose publicity indicates that each of the dolls was completely made by her. Value Points: few examples of the American folk doll are known to exist, this example in beautiful original finish with wonderfully-painted eyes. Included with the doll is an original catalog with tipped-in photos of her dolls and various testimonials from the buyers such as "The dolls are very beautiful - they look like things alive". Also included are copies of several newspaper articles of the 1913/1917 era referencing the Albritton doll.
