A wooden frame enclosed four small paintings, or paintings over engravings, depicting humorous or homey scenes of the early 19th century, including young girl with rattle and toy, Harlequin and Pierrot in the dining room, bear stalking a soldier, and man and woman feeding chickens. Movements: key-wind internal mechanism creates four simultaneous movements: girl shakes rattle, harlequin strikes Pierrot for stealing a bottle of wine, soldier strikes the bear with gun barrel, and man feeds chicken. Maker Unknown, France. Circa 1840. 14" x 17" (36 x 44 cm). Four movements. Two tunes.
