A Chinese character figure with amber tinted composition head and hands, brown glass eyes, artistically painted facial features, hinged mouth, double row of teeth, black human-hair moustache, brows and long queue has sculpted composition body in posed stance on shaped velvet covered flat base, expressively sculpted and poised fingers. He wears elaborate green silk robes with rich embroidery detail, black hat with beaded decorations, trousers, sandals, and carries an elaborately shaped opium pipe. Movements: eyelids open and close, head turns haughtily upright, then left to right, right arm raises pipe to mouth, mouth opens as though inhaling, left arm raises, and he exhales. Circa 1880. 30" (76 cm). Seven movements.
