Description

A bisque-head lady with blue glass paperweight eyes, closed mouth, blonde mohair wig, separate bisque shoulderplate, carton torso and legs, right leg hinged at the hips, and bisque forearms, and is posed on tiptoe on a velvet-covered flat base. She wears an exquisite rose silk dress with silk ribbon and lace trim, silk flower appliques, and carries a decorated tambourine in her left upheld hand. Movements: she pirouettes all around, leans her head from side to side, extends her right leg in graceful dancing motion, pivots her left arm as though shaking the tambourine. The combined movement of twirling with tambourine is very rare, and few are known to exist. By Gustav Vichy, France, circa 1885. 20" (52 cm). Four movements. One tune. Exhibits: Hospice Saint- Charles,1994.
