An elaborately sculpted rural scene featuring a country pond surrounded by tree trunks, mossy knolls and delicate flowers and ferns has a mirrored back to suggest cascading water and mirrored base to simulate a pond. The arrangement is mounted upon its original wooden platform, and is surmounted by a French clock with porcelain face. A butterfly, blue bird and two ducks are featured in the scene and create the animated movement and sound. Movements: butterfly springs back and forth, feathered blue bird flits in its nest as though calling out to the butterfly, the larger duck pivots side to side as though swimming, the smaller duck bobs up and down, and the waterfall twists to create realistic waterfall appearance. The bird creates a double chirping known as "gui-gui". France. Circa 1860. 23" height (58 cm). Five movements. Double gui-gui. Exhibitions: Bagatelle,Paris,1993.
