
Standing upon a velvet covered wooden base is a bisque-head doll with character expression, brown glass paperweight eyes, closed mouth with wide beaming smile and painted teeth, brunette mohair wig, separate bisque shoulderplate, carton torso and legs, bisque forearms. The head, commissioned exclusively from Jumeau for this Lambert series, is marked 203 Depose Tete Jumeau Bte SGDG 4. The girl wears s a silk ivory and blue costume with velvet pom-pom cherries, matching bonnet with cherry appliques and silk shoes, and carries a bunch of cherries. A wooden bird cage is attached to the girl by mechanism in her torso, and contains a red feathered bird on perch. Movements: the girl turns her head from side to side, then nods up and down, her right hand taps the roof of the bird cage, and her left hand offer cherries. Throughout, the bird flits back and forth on its perch. The automaton appeared in the Leopold Lambert catalog named Bebe Cage,No.40. By Leopold Lambert, France, circa 1890. 20" (51 cm).
