Description

A bisque-head lady with pale blue glass inset eyes, closed mouth, blonde mohair wig, separate bisque shoulderplate, carton torso and legs, bisque hands, is posed upon a metal three-wheeled platform. She wears a rose and brown silk gown with lace and silk buttons, matching fancy bonnet with floral decoration, and red shoes and stockings. In her right hand she holds a bouquet of flowers, and in her left hand she holds a feathered bird. The bird is attached to a bellows device that is activated when the lady moves, causing the bird to chirp ("gui-gui"). Movements: the lady turns her head from side to side, then extends the flowers in her hand, and the entire piece revolves and glides on the wheeled base; the bird chirps. Antoine Vichy, France. Circa 1875. 18" (46 cm). Four movements and "chirp".
