Arranged upon an ebony-finished wooden base, under a glass dome, is a bisque-head lady seated at an upright wooden piano. She is curiously posed in a garden like setting beneath an arbor intertwined with silk flowers and leaves, on a grassy floor with little vines and buds. The lady has bisque portrait like head with blue glass enamel eyes, closed mouth with smiling expression, blonde mohair wig with ribbons and flowers, carton torso and legs arranged in seated pose, metal hands and wears a blue silk gown with lace trim. On the piano top is arranged a porcelain bowl and little books. Movements: she nods her head forward, then side to side, she plays the piano with independently moving hands: her right hand moves up and down on the keys and then side to side, her left hand moves side to side. Jean Phalibois, France, circa 1870. 25" (64 cm). Four movements. Two tunes. Exhibits: Bagatelle, Paris, 1993.
