Description

A bisque-head lady with blue glass enamel eyes, closed mouth with hint of smile, auburn mohair wig, carton torso and legs, metal hands, is seated on a piano stool at an upright piano. The lady wears a bronze and blue silk gown with soutache embroidery, net snood, and silk slippers on her feet that are resting upon ormolu foot petals. The piano is of fine cabinet-maker quality, constructed of rosewood and ebony with beautiful inlays, ormolu triple candleholders, music rack and side handles, bone and ebony keys that move up and down, and decorated with a basket of silk flowers. Movements: in complicated and realistic elegant movements she turns her head from side to side, occasionally looking upward at sheet music or downward at the keys, while her fingers move across the keys, pausing realistically now and then before beginning again. By France, circa 1880. 17" seated (45 cm). Three movements. Two tunes.
