Description

A bisque-head lady with blue glass paperweight eyes, closed mouth, blonde mohair wig, separate bisque shoulderplate, carton torso and legs arranged in seated pose with crossed legs, bisque forearms and hands with separately sculpted fingers, is posed upon a wooden stool on a burgundy velvet covered wooden base. She wears an ivory and rose silk satin gown with velvet ribbon and paillette appliques, lace overskirt, collar and cuffs, ivory jester cap and slippers with pom-poms, and holds a wooden mandolin with inlay designs. The bisque head, made by Jumeau, is marked 8. The key is marked LB. Movements: she turns her head from side to side and forward and back in realistic circular motions, her right hand strums the mandolin with motion emanating from the hinged elbow; her upper torso leans forward and backward, and her right leg taps to the music. By Leopold Lambert, France, circa 1890. 22" (56 cm). Five movements. Two tunes.
