Description
A wooden platform with symbolic carvings has an elaborate pagoda and pavilion constructed on either side, and a central oval track on which are arranged four people in ceremonial costumes, paper mache heads with painted features, and wooden loosely jointed limbs. Movements: the people parade around and around, walking from the pagoda to the pavilion in a marching formation, their bounce up and down in a realistic walking movement. Maker Unknown, French, circa 1850. 23"l. (58 cm).
