Description

A bisque-head boy with brown glass paperweight eyes, closed mouth, brunette wig, carton torso and legs, and metal hands is standing upon a velvet- covered wooden base. He wears a traditional folklore costume of the Shepherd of the Landres region in France, comprising silk fitted jacket and short pants, fur vest for cold mountain nights, boots with leg straps, tall hat, and carries a violin. The doll head, by Jumeau, is marked E. Movements: he turns his head from side to side and glides the bow held in his right hand over the violin. Roullet et Decamps, France. Circa 1900. 18" (46 cm).
