Description

Arranged upon an ebony-finished wooden oval base, without dome, is a forest-like scene with one large tree having gnarled trunk, branches with leaves and flowers, mossy hillock that encloses a porcelain-faced French clock, mossy ground with little flowers and ferns, six feathered birds and a spiral twist glass waterfall. The clock chimes on the hours and half hours. Movements: three birds move: one flits from branch to branch while turning side to side, one moves tail feathers, and the third bobs up and down; the waterfall turns. The three birds each chirp independently. By Jean Phalibois, France, circa 1870. 22" (56 cm). Three birds and waterfall "gui-gui".
