Description

A bisque-head girl with blue glass paperweight eyes, closed mouth, blonde mohair wig, separate bisque shoulderplate, bisque arms, composition torso and legs is wearing an elaborate silk and velvet costume with hand-painted decorations, silk pom-poms and lace trim, and is mounted upon a gold velvet flat base. A very ornate gilded woven basket containing a feathered bird is attached to the girl by a metal rod protruding from her side torso. The bisque head is by Jumeau, marked Depose Tete Jumeau, Bte SGDG 4. Movements: girl turns head from side to side, and up and down, left arm moves up and down, raising and lowering the lid of the basket; the bird awakens and chirps. Circa 1885. 24" (61 cm).
