A bisque-head girl with blue glass paperweight eyes, closed mouth, blonde mohair wig, carton torso and legs, and bisque forearms, is standing upon a velvet-covered wooden base. She holds a wooden teapot in her right hand, and a tray in her left hand. She is wearing a pale yellow and ivory silk Russian traditional costume with elaborate gold braid and passamenterie, elaborate necklace, and velvet headdress with faux-jewels and pearls. Movements: she turns her head from side to side as though offering tea, then lifts the tea pot and turns her arm as though pouring, then extends the tray in her right arm, and finally nods her head up and down approvingly. The automaton appeared in the Lambert catalog as Bebe Russe, No 42. During the mid-1890åÁs Paris was fascinated by the Russian royal family who visited the city a number of times. The automaton was created in response to this interest, and became one of the most popular Lambert offerings. Leopold Lambert, France, circa 1890. 20" (51 cm). Five movements. One tune.
