A Chinese man with highly characterized features, defined cheekbones, darkened complexion, bald pate with pony tail, narrow moustache and goatee, has brown glass eyes, closed mouth, carton torso and legs, composition hands, and is standing upon a velvet-covered wooden base alongside a wooden pedestal table with maroon velvet cover. He wears silk Chinese tunic and trousers and holds a magic wand in his right hand. The table has a silver cone under which are hidden four surprises. Movements: he turns his head to the side, taps the magic wand, the silver cup lifts and one of the four surprises appears; the action is repeated and another surprise appears. By Adolph Mueller, Germany, circa 1895. 32" (80 cm). Three or more movements. Exhibit: Hospice Saint-Charles, Liege, 1994.
