Description

A bisque-head girl with brown glass paperweight eyes, closed mouth, blonde mohair wig, carton torso and legs and bisque arms, is standing upon a velvet-covered wooden base. Her torso is padded to suggest shapely adult female body and she wears a gold silk costume with maroon velvet jacket trimmed with metallic embroidery, lace, silk balls. Her elaborate coiffe is of lace and she holds a tambourine trimmed with garlands of silk ribbons and brass bells in her outstretched right hand. The doll head, by Jumeau, is marked F. Movements: she turns her head side to side and shakes the tambourine with right hand. The automaton appeared in an original catalog of Roullet et Decamps with illustration of the identical costume named Espagnol Femme, No. 362. Roullet et Decamps, France. Circa 1900. 18" (46 cm).
