A finely oil-painted scene on canvas depicts a tranquil village and harbor, a large cathedral with clock tower and actual working clock, castle on the hillside, windmill and town in the distance, wending waterway with bridge and a boat with two oarsmen, simple village houses and pathways, nine people shown walking along the paths. The painting and mechanical movements are enclosed within a shadowbox with a fine gold leaf finished ornate frame. Maker Unknown. Circa 1860. 33" x 39" (84 x 99cm). Four tunes, carillon and angelus.
