32" (81 cm.) Solid domed paper mache shoulderhead of adult woman with oval face and elongated throat, brown glass enamel inset eyes, dark eyeliner, painted lashes and brows, closed mouth, brunette human hair wig with side-coiled braids, French kid shapely poupee body, lovely silk costume. Condition: original finish is over-varnished, body is sturdy albeit with some kid repairs. Comments: French, circa 1840, attributed to German immigrant Andreas Voit who established his paper mache firm in France and whose dolls are considered the premiere 19th century French poupees. Value Points: rare doll with commanding presence, important historical context.
