Pressed bisque swivel head on kid-edged bisque shoulderplate, almond-shaped blue glass enamel inset eyes with rich spiral threading, dark eyeliner encircles the eyecut, painted lashes, mauve blushed eyeshadow, feathered and brushstroked brows, accented eye corners, shaded nostrils, closed mouth with defined space between the shaded and accented lips, heart-shaped upper lip, blushed cheeks, earlobes, chin, pierced ears, blonde mohair wig over cork pate, original kid bebe body based upon the Bru deposed bebe model, gusset-jointed plump limbs, bisque lower arms and hands with separately sculpted fingers, antique maroon velvet and patterned silk dress, ruffled bonnet with silk streamers, undergarments, good old leather shoes, stockings, pearl necklace. Condition: generally excellent, right baby finger tip missing from knuckle, tiny flake at back of shoulderplate. Marks: 5. Comments: Bebe Brevete, by Leon Casimir Bru, the first model bebe issued by that firm, circa 1878; the bebe was seldom made in sizes larger than 16", and this 23" size is not only exceptionally rare, but allows the full expression of the modeling. Value Points: outstanding beauty, bisque, sculpting and painting of the rare size milepost bebe, with original body, early costume.
