A wooden school room with natural finish, architectural details of doors, windows and clock on exterior, hinges open to reveal scalloped canopy with label "Ecole" and school room interior comprising four double school desks with attached benches, one single desk at the front of class room, teacher's desk, blackboard, accessories including abacus, maps and globe. The school includes nine china head dolls as students in matching school uniforms, bisque head teacher with wire-rimmed glasses. Each student has a music sheet on its desk, and the teacher holds a bell-tipped baton and music sheet. When wound, the teacher turns her head from side to side, "conducts" the singing with her waving arms, and a music box plays. Excellent condition. French, circa 1890. A rare combination of miniature room, music box and mechanical toy.
