Porcelain swivel head with flat-cut neck socket, on porcelain shoulder plate, rounded plump facial modeling, dark blue up-cast painted eyes, very delicately fringed lashes encircle the eyes, feathered brows, accented nostrils and eye corners, closed mouth with center accent line, unpierced ears, blonde mohair wig over original muslin cap and cork pate, softly stuffed plump kid body with kid-over-wooden upper arms, porcelain arms to above the elbows, wooden ball-jointed knees and porcelain lower legs, original tying strings in mid torso. Condition: generally excellent, some restitching at body seams, right index finger reglued. Marks: Mme Rohmer (body stamp). Comments: Leontine Rohmer, circa 1858,based upon her patents for positioning the doll in a seated position with tying strings, and neck articulation. Value Points: very beautiful facial painting on the rare early doll with original body; with an original trousseau comprising black dress with cape and bonnet, mauve cotton plaid dress, sheer cotton dotted rose dress, and peach silk jacket and skirt with white cotton blouse, undergarments, shoes, along with paper label indicating the doll was exhibited as "Exposition de la Poupee" in Lyons, France in 1933; that famous exhibition was an important retrospective of the 19th century French doll making industry.
