Pair, Black Knitted Folk Dolls

Each 24" (61 cm). Caricature-figured dolls are constructed of loosely knitted black yarn over firmly-stuffed armature form, with egg-shaped head, elongated neck and torso, very skinny arms and legs with wire armature for posing, over-sized feet. Each has embroidered eyes (the girl with side-glancing expression) and mouth; the girl has four pigtails and wears cotton dress, socks and red felt shoes with blue lacing; the boy has red felt derby cap, jersey striped shirt and striped linen pants. Condition: very good, some spotting on costumes. Comments: maker unknown, although construction appears to be commercial, early 20th century. Value Points: whimsical caricature dolls are well-preserved, each with unique expression.
