19" (48 cm). Made of ribbed knit black socks, the cloth doll features oversized head with stitch- shaped nose, embroidered eyes with black button pupils, unusual curly brown yarn lashes, embroidered mouth with teeth tips, black yarn hair, crudely shaped body with the heel of the sock forming the stomach. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: American, late 19th century. Value Points: imaginative and quite appealing folk art construction, creative use of found materials such as old socks, original costume.
