A firm-sided box with decorative paper covers bordering an elaborate gilt label "Modes Nouveautes" hinges open to reveal a well-fitted interior comprising all the materials needed for making doll bonnets: including 13 actual bonnets of various materials, plus additional colored straw, lace and net trims in various colors, silk ribbons, threads, and various tools for decorating bonnets. The menage was offered in Parisian department store catalogs at the end of the 19th century and was a popular method for teaching young girls to sew. Remarkable state of originality, vibrant colors and unplayed with. Circa 1890.
