The lid hinges open to reveal a well- fitted interior with various stationery materials designed for child's play, viz. pen, lining stick, glass ink well, glass talcum bottle, two blue boxes with raised design of bird with letter in his beak (one containing miniature faux- stamps, one with extra pen nibs),a variety of miniature envelopes addressed to Monsieur or Mademoiselle, matching writing papers, and a number of party invitations concerning a presentation of the Guignol theatre, presumably the child's toy theatre (see lots 71 and 72). Excellent condition, a rare deluxe stationery set for a privileged child. French, circa 1880.
