A wooden framed one- room schoolhouse with painted blue room and simply painted exterior façade, labeled Ecole Communale, hinges open to reveal an amusing school room scene, featuring paper mache schoolteacher, four paper mache seated students with folded arms depicted as good little boys and girls, and two paper mache students wearing dunce caps in kneeling position being punished. The room also contains two double-student desks and benches, teacher's desk, chalk board, and various wall teaching aides including an unusual exercise chart. An unusual presentation with wonderfully preserved interior in vibrant rich colors. French, circa 1890.
