11" (28 cm). Each is hand-knitted, with defined head-shape, embroidered facial features and yarn hair, the colorful costumes incorporated as part of the body. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Circa 1885,a series of published patterns appeared in The New York Tribune, Butterick and Harper's Bazaar about 1885 with instructions for knitting a variety of dolls including soldiers and black dolls. Value Points: rare little dolls are well preserved, have most appealing creative details of costuming and facial expression.
