21" (53 cm). Solid domed paper mache shoulderhead with oval shaped face and elongated elegantly shaped throat, black enamel inset eyes, lightly fringed brows and lashes, accented nostrils, open mouth with double row of teeth, pierced ears, original brunette human hair wig over black painted pate, pink kid fashion body with shapely torso, gusset jointing at hips. Condition: very good, very minor facial aging, costume is original albeit quite frail. Comments: France, circa 1840. Value Points: outstanding early doll with portrait like qualities and demeanor, original wig and body, superb early ivory silk costume with wax orange blossom garlands, undergarments, double strand of pearl necklace, and very rare sewn-on white leather gloves.
