Description
12" (30 cm). Each has pink tinted porcelain shoulderhead with rounded facial modeling, dark blue glass enamel inset eyes, dark eyeliner, painted lashes and lightly feathered brows, accented nostrils, closed mouth with accent line between the lips,blonde mohair wig over cork pate, paper mache body with kid one-piece arms, hand-stitched separated fingers. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: attributed to Blampoix who deposed the enamel eye design in 1855. Value Points: an exceptionally well preserved and rare early pair of dolls, each wearing its original silk Shepherd and Shepherdess costume; the dolls are shown in "The Encyclopedia of French Dolls" by Theimer, Volume I, page 85.
