Description

16"l tricycle (40 cm), 17"h seated girl (43 cm). Seated upon a cast iron tricycle with very fancy shaping of wheel spokes and bone-tipped handles and original red and yellow paint, is a bisque- headed girl with black sculpted hair in short pageboy fashion, brown glass enamel eyes, closed mouth with center accent line, unusual original drilled holes for support of metal-framed glasses, carton torso, wire upper arms and legs, metal hands, paper mache knee-high boots. When wound at mechanism hidden on tricycle frame, the girl appears to pedal, wheels turn, the tricycle propels forward, turns, the girl turns her head from side to side as though surveying the countryside. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: attributed to Gustav Vichy, circa 1875,bisque head attributed to Francois Gaultier. Value Points: splendid early mechanical toy is wonderfully preserved, functions well, rare bisque head, unusual driving spectacles, rare large size.
