Description
16" (41 cm.) x 13" x 7"d. Set within a Victorian burled walnut shadowbox frame is a bar setting carved entirely in wood, featuring six skeletons seated at a long bar against which faces a decorated back wall with large painting, various signs such as "If you believe in credit, loan me $5" and "No water served here", menu board (cheese sandwich is 10 cents), old radio, various whiskey bottles. The entire setting is of carved wood and of great detail such as the bar railing upon which their feet are resting in various manners. A hand-lettered note at the front of the bar reads "Class Reunion", a macabre setting-done by an unknown woodcarver from Portsmouth, New Hampshire.c 1930". The diorama was acquired by California miniaturist artists Joan and William Helton on a trip to New England in 1977 and has been in their private collection since.
