Description
6 1/2"h (16 cm). A rounded cardboard box with
gilt paper and engraving of young child,is
surmounted by the waist-up figure of paper mache
taufling baby with glass enamel inset eyes,open
mouth,painted features; the faux-baby body is
wrapped in swaddling fashion,preserved in center
cylinder in box,and revealed when the box lid is
removed,along with encircling candy storage
areas. The box was presented as candy box treat
as babyås baptism. French,circa 1850,an unusual
early candy box; the box and baby costume are
well-preserved,the doll head has craquelure.
