Description
5" and 6 1/2" diameters (13, 16 cm). Each is of firm-sided paper mache with gesso and gilt paper banding, gold leaf rims. The reverse of the glass lids feature hand-painted scenes, one depicts a fashionably dressed young lady of the 1820 era in yellow gown. On the other a blue-gowned lady with hair in the Marie Antoinette style is seated at a pianoforte, entertaining a gentleman; detailed flowers, music sheets, draperies and furniture are included. French, Epoque Napoleon III. Excellent condition.
