Description

14" (35 cm). Pressed bisque swivel head with ebony-black complexion, on original kid-edged bisque shoulderplate, black enamel inset eyes, painted black lashes and brows, uniquely shaped nose, open mouth with slightly parted lips, four upper and four lower teeth, pierced ears, black elaborately coiffed wig in traditional style, original brown kid body with shapely torso, gusset-jointing at elbows, hips and knees, stitched and separated fingers, elaborately draped in original glass beads and jewels. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: 2. Comments: attributed to Leon Casimir Bru, circa 1875, two other examples are known to exist, a 17" example with ebony-black complexion (sold by Theriault's in July 2003,#117) and a 17" example with lighter complexion, shown in The Bru Book by Theimer/Theriault. Value Points: extremely rare poupee in superb state of preservation, outstanding complexion and painting, unique facial model, included is original wooden shipping box.
