8"h (20 cm),10" (25 cm) square box. Standing upon a wooden platform with elaborate paper lithographed decorations to simulate parquet floor and holiday holly are a circle of six small bisque-headed glass-eyed dolls (three boys, three girls) holding hands and surrounding a center doll that stands in the middle as though directing. When handle is wound, the center doll twirls in one direction, while the circle of dolls twirls in the opposite, and music plays. The activity continues for two revolutions, then the dolls pause, and twirl to the opposite direction. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: attributed to Zinner and Sohne, circa 1890. Value Points: rare mechanical toy is perfectly preserved, with rare large number of dolls, each wearing original silk costume and wig, with intriguing activity.
