Description
15" x 21" (38 x 53 cm). A heavy board card with checkered paper border and lithographed designs of butcher shop interior, along with cardboard cut- outs at the bottom front showing display of bakery goods, is centered by a bisque doll with glass sleep eyes, open mouth, brunette wig, five piece paper mache body, wearing a butcher's uniform. Attached to the card are 28 faux-foods including pig's head, sausage, chicken, ham, salami, chops, and various baked goods, along with miniature tea tins and cutlery. The presentation card was offered in Etrennes catalogs of Paris department stores, circa 1910,and few examples remain intact. This vivid and perfectly preserved example has exceptional detail of background and objects.
