Description

22"h (56 cm), 12" (30 cm). Mounted upon a wooden platform with metal wheels and painted base to suggest a forest pathway is bisque-headed Polichinelle with blue glass eyes, closed mouth, white mohair wig, classic humped front and back torso, attached to vividly painted paper mache rooster in a curious manner as though Polichinelle is riding the rooster, yet Polichinelle's lower legs also form the legs of the rooster. Condition: generally excellent, back wheel spokes missing. Marks: F.G. (head of doll). Comments: French, circa 1890. Value Points: fabulous original condition with rich vibrant colors or rooster, base, original silk Polichinelle jester costume, cap and boots with metallic and paper gilt and lace trim; when the toy is pulled along Polichinelle turns his head from side to side and waves the bell-trimmed baton he holds in right hand.
