Description
8"h (20 cm). Semi-vitreous creamware four-sided pitcher is lavishly decorated with hand-colored scenes from the 1906 book "The Roosevelt Bears" by Seymour Eaton, including Bears Take a Ride, Bears at Country School, Bears at the Circus and Bears at home, along with a large number of sepia-toned illustrations and captions from the book. Excellent condition, typical vitreous craze lines. Signed "Buffalo Pottery,1907,Copyright Edward Stein & Co" with buffalo symbol and artist's initials M.L. A rare early example from that firm with particular interest to collectors of early bears.
