American Wooden "Borden’s Bottled Milk and Cream" Wagon by Schoenhut

13" (33 cm.) Wagon. 24" overall length. 8" drivers. A wooden four-wheeled delivery cart has original creamy finish with stenciled lettering "Borden’s Bottled Milk and Cream" on either side and a hinged lowering flap at the back; a brown flannel-covered horse with elaborate saddle, tail and mane, mounted on a wheeled wooden base is pulling the cart which contains a wooden tray labeled "Borden’s" and is filled with wooden milk bottles. Attending the cart are two wooden Schoenhut dolls with painted brown hair and moustache, swivel head, jointing at shoulders and hips (and one with rare additional knee jointing), wearing blue chambray uniforms. Condition: very good, horse hide is dusty, one chambray costume is replaced. Comments: Schoenhut, the wagons were offered in their 1929 catalog; many, such as this example, were purchased as exhibition pieces in dairy and bakery stores. Value Points: rare-to-find Schoenhut toy with original stenciling on cart and milk carrier.
