Description

23"h (58 cm). A bisque-headed doll with blue glass inset eyes, closed mouth, accented lips, painted lashes and brows, brunette mohair wig over cork pate, is seated with crossed knees upon a wooden pedestal stool that is displayed upon a velvet-covered platform with tassel trim. The doll has a bisque shoulder plate and bisque lower arms and hands with very expressive fingers posed for strumming the mandolin, carton moule torso and legs. When wound, she turns her head up and around and then sideways, alternately moves her hands up and down the mandolin strings, and raises and lowers her leg as though keeping time to the music that is playing. Condition: generally excellent, costume frail. Marks: 7 (head) LB (key). Comments: Leopold Lambert, circa 1885. Value Points: very complicated movements are beautifully synchronized and realistic, original Lambert costume albeit quite frail.
