Description

20" (51 cm). All wooden doll with simplistic hand-carving, flat-cut swivel neck socket on dowel arrangement, very elongated face, brown sculpted hair drawn low and behind the sculpted ears into a coiled tight bun at back of head, enamel eyes, defined lashes and brows, closed mouth, elongated torso with defined waist and bosom, dowel-jointed arms at shoulders and elbows, defined fingers, the blue-painted torso extends nearly floor-length with center-cut archway in which is arranged a multi-pede spoked structure of seven alternating legs with painted ankle boots. Condition: overall good, some touch- up on face and hair. Comments: 19th century; when costumed, the doll's gown covered the leg construction, thus appearing as though only having two legs, yet allowing the doll's legs to have realistic walking motion. Value Points: rare early doll with unusual construction, swivel head, artfully carved hair.
