Pair, Wax over Paper Mache Black Dolls

5" and 8" (13 and 20 cm). Each has wax over paper mache shoulder head with ebony black complexion and rounded childlike shape, black enamel inset eyes, tinted brows, painted closed mouth, fleecy hair, the larger with brown muslin body and leather arms, the smaller with black all muslin body, each with antique costume. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: 27/5 2/0 (larger). Comments: maker unknown, circa 1860. Value Points: rare pair of early black dolls with appealing appearance, well preserved.
