Description
12" wide (30 cm). Standing upon a three-wheeled
metal base is a paper mache donkey with glass
eyes, ears, defined eye mask and muzzle,
decorative ribbons and nodding head. A bisque-
headed doll portraying a man dressed for a
festive evening in silk jacket and silk striped
pants, holding wine bottle in right hand, is
seated on the donkey. When wound, the platform
propels forward and in circles while the donkey
nods his head and the man alternately lifts his
arms, urging the donkey forward or drinking from
the bottle, his head tilts forward and back in
time with the bottle. Condition: generally
excellent. Marks: 1300-2 1/2 dep S&H. Comments:
attributed to Vichy et Fils, circa 1890. Value
Points: wonderful toy with amusing antics,
functioning well, all-original decorations and
costumes.
