Description
20" overall (51 cm). Standing upon a bronze
velvet-covered platform is a bisque-headed
doll with large blue glass paperweight inset
eyes, lushly painted lashes, feathered brows,
accented nostrils, closed mouth, shaded lips,
pierced ears, brunette mohair wig over cork
pate, carton moule torso and legs, wire upper
arms, bisque forearms. When wound, the girl
turns her head from side to side, lifts bouquet
and nods head as though to sniff the flowers,
raises the lid of the basket with her other hand
and shows the flowers she is offering; music
plays. Condition: generally excellent,
mechanism and music function well. Marks:
Depose Tete Jumeau Bte SGDG 4 (head).
Comments: Leopold Lambert, with bisque
head by Jumeau, circa 1890, the automaton
appeared in the Lambert catalog as #33,
"Bebe Bouquetiere". Value Points: beautiful
child with original silk costume, basket of
flowers has appealing mechanical action,
mechanism and music function well, original
paper label on base indicating the tune "Les
Petits Mousquetaires".
